PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal AG Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft (PwC Legal) has appointed a new Head of the Banking, Insurance and Investment Law practice group: the structured finance and regulatory law expert Dr Michael Huertas, who took up the post with effect from 1 December. He succeeds Jörg Wulfken, who retired from PwC Legal in summer 2020.

Michael Huertas joined PwC Legal in Frankfurt as a Partner on 1 July 2021. He joined PwC from the international corporate law firm Dentons, where he was a Partner in the Banking and Financial Law practice group from 2018 and headed up the EU Financial Services Regulatory group. A specialist in banking regulatory law in the eurozone, the 38-year-old Huertas has worked for other international law firms in Frankfurt and London before working for Dentons, as well as working as a lawyer at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and a global banking group in London.

Michael Huertas is licensed to practise as a lawyer in Germany as well as in England and Wales and in Ireland. His clients also include fintech companies, notably crypto asset service providers and financial market infrastructure providers.

“We have seen very strong growth in banking, investment and insurance regulatory law for some time now. I am particularly delighted that we have managed to recruit Michael Huertas, who is a renowned expert in this area. His profound knowledge of banking regulatory law and his extensive international network will enable him to continue the expansion of this strategically important practice group in his executive role”, commented Dr Steffen Schniepp, Managing Partner at PwC Legal.
